“All happy families are alike; but each unhappy family has its own special reason to feel miserable.” LEO TOLSTOY
It’s New Year’s Eve. A family gets together to celebrate the start of a new year. What seems like a happy evening is actually a trompe-l’œil: a set of false appearances that falls apart when, between the chimes and the toasts, family relationships blow up. A raw, non-linear story, told in a single long take, that portrays the secrets of a family trapped by lies and the dark figure.
The “dark figure” (or dark number) in the family sphere refers to all crimes, abuse, and episodes of domestic violence that are never reported or officially recorded. It represents the gap between reality and institutional statistics.
